Day Mountain Trail
Length: .9 mile from parking area on Route 3 to summit
Difficulty Rating: Moderate
The Day Mountain trail is a short hike up one of Acadia’s smaller peaks. The trail is relatively flat initially, then moves over a series of bog bridges before its first crossing with a carriage road. The trail then moves back into the woods and continues to meander over a combination of rock, soil and roots. The elevation gain is moderate and steady throughout most of the trail with some sharper inclines toward the summit.
The trail crosses the carriage road two more times before reaching the summit. The summit offers good views of Otter Creek and Seal harbor. A carriage road also leads to the summit, providing the opportunity to take a different route down and make a loop. Follow the carriage road down and reconnect with the Day Mountain trail at carriage road sign post 36.
