The Beehive Trail
Length: .6 mile from the Bowl trail head off the Loop Road to the summit of the Beehive
Difficulty Rating: Strenuous
Caution: iron rungs comprise portion of trail
The Beehive trail is a popular choice for hikers looking for challenge and adventure during the seasonal closures of the Precipice Trail. This trail is not as strenuous or difficult as the Precipice Trail but similar in that both trails incorporate some ladders and iron rungs. The Beehive Trail splits from the Bowl Trail on the right .2 mile in from the Bowl trail head. The trail gains elevation quickly, as hikers climb the ladders and the iron rungs and negotiate the short, steep sections of granite over the next .4 mile to the summit.
This trail can be extremely crowded in the summer months. It is best to hike early in the day or later in the evening. Due to the popularity and difficulty of this trail, it’s easier to descend on the opposite side. Go over the summit, following the Beehive trail .2 mile down to the Bowl and connect back to the Bowl trail. Follow the Bowl Trail back to the Loop Road for .7 mile. This trail is not suited for dogs and small children.
