Compass Harbor Trail

This trail, close to downtown Bar Harbor, is a quiet walk through the woods to Compass Harbor. The trail is fairly level, but some uneven ground and exposed roots near the water can make it somewhat challenging. Compass Harbor is the site "Old Farm", the former residence of George Dorr, Acadia’s first superintendent and "The Father of Acadia."
The foundation of the house still exists as well as stone stair cases leading down toward the water. The foundation of the house is located to the left of the main trail, a short distance through the woods. There are multiple unmaintained trails connecting to the main trail down to the Harbor, so hikers should pay careful attention to stay on the main trail.
