Canon Brook Trail
Cadillac Mountain
Length: 2.0 miles from the Parking area on Route 3 to the Featherbed
Difficulty Rating: Moderate/Strenuous
Hiking the Canon Brook trail is a truly unique experience in Acadia National Park. The trail follows the Canon Brook, giving hikers the sense that they are walking through a brook rather than up a trail, moving over stepping stones. Initially the trail travels through the woods in a gorge until beginning an ascent up a series of granite ledges.
These ledges are usually slippery (unless the area has been affected by drought) and hikers should use caution. The ledges have a series of small waterfalls and pools that provide distinctive scenery along the trail. At approximately 1.6 miles from the trail head, the trail deviates from the brook moving toward the south ridge. It eventually connects with the South Ridge Trail at the Featherbed.
