Beachcroft Trail
Champlain Mountain
Length: 1.2 miles from the Tarn parking area on Route 3 to the summit
Difficulty Rating: Strenuous
Designed By George B. Dorr, frequently referred to as "The Father of Acadia" and built in 1915, the Beachcroft Trail is an example of the impressive trail construction in Acadia National Park. The trail begins by the side of Route 3 diagonally across from the Tarn Parking area.
The trail follows a series of granite stairs and cut stone in a switchback style up the side of Huguenot Head. Upon gaining elevation, the trees becomes more sparse and open, revealing views of the Tarn below and Dorr Mountain directly across Route 3 . The trail skirts the summit of Huguenot Head and drops down slightly before becoming steep as it joins with the west side of Champlain Mountain. This last section is challenging with some sections of rock scramble in addition to the steep grade.
